چکیده

This report summarizes the main findings of an AFOSR Basic Research Initiative project in the area ofendothermic fuels catalysis. The focus was on developing improved catalysts to enhance and controlendothermic fuel reactions, to enhance cooling capacity for aircraft. In addition there was substantial basicmechanistic work, aimed at understanding processes responsible for catalytic activity for the reactions ofinterest, and for deactivation and coking of the catalysts. Finally, there was significant methodsdevelopment in the areas of theory, catalyst synthesis and characterization, and methods for catalyticreaction analysis. The effect of a novel hybrid nano-catalyst in diesel-biodiesel fuel blends on the energy balance of a diesel engine

In internal combustion engines, only about a third of the total fuel input energy is converted into useful work. If the energy rejected into the cooling system and the exhaust gases could be recovered instead and put into useful work, fuel economy would have been substantially improved. The main aim of this research paper was to evaluate the effects of the hybrid nano-catalyst containing ce...

An octane-fueled solid oxide fuel cell.

There are substantial barriers to the introduction of hydrogen fuel cells for transportation, including the high cost of fuel-cell systems, the current lack of a hydrogen infrastructure, and the relatively low fuel efficiency when using hydrogen produced from hydrocarbons. Here, we describe a solid oxide fuel cell that combines a catalyst layer with a conventional anode, allowing internal refor...

Real-time method for the identification and quantification of hydrocarbon pyrolysis products: Part I. Development and validation of the infra red technique

Due to large heat load encountered in high speed flight (over Mach 5), the regenerative cooling of the engine leads to the study of the endothermic pyrolysis of the onboard hydrocarbon fuel, which acts as a coolant. However the control and regulation of such a technology implies to have a correct knowledge of the endothermic pyrolysis of the onboard hydrocarbon fuel, which motivates the develop...
